GALAXY NOTE 9
– The best Samsung gets even better.
The flagship of the Samsung line-up gets a few subtle changes compared to its predecessor but these make a world of difference . We take a look at these changes and how they have made the experience of using this beast of a phone even more pleasurable.
With the Note 9 its truly a story of The Beauty and the Beast, the wrap around glass exterior , curved edges and the wide range of colors make the overall feel of the phone in the hand mesmerizing . While its a lot more boxy (and bigger !) compared to the S9 family it’s still fun to use and attractive.
But is bigger always better ?
Unlike a lot of other smartphone manufacturers Samsung has put the Note 9’s larger proportions to good use .With 128GB/512 GB of storage which can be expanded ( Yes we can now have a Terabyte of storage on a phone ) and 6GB/8GB of RAM , a water carbon cooling system and a massive 4000 mAh battery powering the beast. That stunning 6.4 inch super AMOLED display (which debatably is the best display on any phone ) has amazing brightness , contrast and punchy colors . Paired up with A grade speakers with Dolby Atmos makes the Note 9 a great media consumption , gaming device .
The S-pen
The iconic S pen is what has always defined the Note lineup from all other phones out there. A nifty little device that has much better functionality now than ever before , turning the Note 9 into a productivity machine . It does everything it did from the start , a lot better now and adds to that with bluetooth low energy functionality . What does this mean for the everyday user ? The pen now can be used to remotely control the Note 9 from a distance . From controlling presentations to taking group pictures without a timer ( Yes ! no more running to get into pictures ) by clicking the button on the S pen . The most exciting of it all , would be the addition of that yellow S pen with the blue Note 9 . It does indeed look great .
The Cameras
What good would a great phone like this be without great cameras. While it isn’t a Pixel 2 (or Pixel 3) , the dual cameras do an amazing job with photos . The Note probably has the best camera hardware out there . What it falters in is image processing , while it isn’t bad by any means , it isn’t the best out there . With that , it is still among the top 5 cameras out there today which is pretty remarkable as the competition is close with most phones delivering amazing photos . Whats great though is the low light performance , just like the S9+ but even better . Overall it’s an ‘A’ grade camera setup with great HDR , colors and features that’s going to make 99% of its users beyond happy .
The Software , and uh yeah Bixby
Samsung’s software on its phones is what makes them unique and the additional features and gimmicks pay off to a great extent and make the Note 9 what it is . The Note 9 with that great battery and a few software tweaks now provides an all day battery . Samsung’s experience UI over Android still isn’t the best but is getting close , with One UI out in the foreseeable future the software and user experience should get a lot better . Bixby isn’t great (to say the least) but the phone comes with Google Assistant giving users a useful alternative .Protected by Samsung Knox the Note is one of the most secure phones today . Software updates have always been slow with Samsung , so if updating to the latest version of Android is priority get the Pixel instead . Performance on the Note 9 is fast and smooth, this phone isn’t going to disappoint anyone.
The Verdict
The Note has always been a powerful and respected series of phones .With the Note 9 Samsung has bought all the great things from the previous generations and made them even better . Want power ? – This is the phone for you . Probably the most complete package of a phone out today . If slow updates don’t bother you , this the most complete phone on the market .
